LOTOS LTP5000D Review
Updated January 2018
Rated to cut 1/2 inch steel.
Many positive reviews despite lower build quality.
Not as rugged as Hypertherm or Miller machines.
LOTOS is a rather small company. Parts availability could disappear rather quickly.
Welcome to our review of the LOTOS LTP5000D. First of all I want to start by saying that this review is going to give the cold hard truth about this plasma cutter. This machine is made in China and predicting its performance and reliability is like spinning a lottery wheel. You never know what you’re going to get! In this review I will do my best to sum up the experiences that multiple buyers have had when choosing this budget plasma cutter and give you an idea of what you’re in for if you purchase this machine.
Why This Machine Is Appealing
First off, this machine costs 1/3 the price of a brand name plasma cutter. This makes it very desirable to anyone with a small budget looking for a machine that won’t break the bank. The company who makes this machine claims that it will cut up to 1/2” steel which is the same other machines that cost over 3x as much. So the question is, how can such a cheap unit provide such high performance? The answer is that it’s a cheaply built machine with exaggerated capabilities. You will not find the same performance, durability, or customer support out of the LOTOS LTP5000D as other name brands such as Hypertherm, Hobart, or Miller.
The True Experiences Of Most Users
The LOTOS LTP5000D has a lot of mixed reviews which makes its reputation uncertain among the community. Some say the machine works great for the price and others say the machine only lasts a month or two before it craps out. Unfortunately, there are a lot of users saying that this machine fails after only a couple of months of usage. When reading about buyers experiences they explained that the customer support was little to nonexistent which made their overall buying and repairing experience terrible. People who still own a working machine have also explained that there are issues buying replacement consumables online. Multiple reviews online state that replacement parts sold on Amazon do not actually fit the machine even though they are labeled to do so. At the end of the day most users wish they had invested more money in their purchase and got a Hypertherm Powermax30 (three times more expensive, but will last a lifetime for the average weekend warrior).
Do We Recommend This Machine?
So honestly we cannot recommend the LOTOS LTP5000D due to the uncertainty that comes along with the purchase. If you want something that works 100% of the time and does its job well, then get a Hypertherm, Miller, or Hobart. If you have more time than money, then take a chance on the LOTOS. And please believe me that we are not recommending these brands simply because they are more expensive. We love quality tools that get the job done and because of that we cannot recommend this unit.
We recommend spending more money and getting a Hypertherm Powermax30 (Amazon.com link). This machine will beat the LOTOS in every aspect imaginable except price. The higher price tag will get you a professional machine that will perform better than any other plasma cutter in its class. Trust us it’s worth every penny!
